2018.01.18 School Yard Improvement Project Meeting

Thank you to those who came out for our kick off meeting January 18th!

Our first meeting a huge success and the project is now underway! The Victoria Public School Council welcomes students, teachers, parents & community members to join our small, but mighty team!

Meeting topics were as follows:

Project Goals - What is a goal?

  • goals are the large statements of what you hope to accomplish

  • goals are not always measurable in the project's lifetime

  • goals are the setting for what you are proposing

  • a goal statement answers the question: "What does the organization hope to accomplish?"

Our team was able to identify both over-arching and specific project goals. These goals will be a good reference point for our project as it moves forward.

Funding Sources

  1. Fund raising

  2. Sponsorship & Donations

  3. Grants

For this project we're going to spend the most time looking at grants. A list of 21 potential funders was distributed among the committee members.

The list included:

Members were encouraged to use the "Examining Funders' Priorities: Potential Funders Worksheet" (can be found at: Members were asked to send all research to by February 8, 2018.

Project Toolkit: Building Our Resources

The last topic of our meeting was to brainstorm a list of contacts and resources we could use during the project. Additions can be made at our next meeting.

Thank you again to all of those who came to the meeting. We are always welcoming new members too! You can join us for our next committee meeting Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 3:35 in the school library. All meeting are planned for 60 minutes, however, please feel free to "drop-in" or do as your schedule allows.
