We need gently used Board Games & Card Games!

We're developing a game lending library at the school!

Victoria Public School has received a generous grant to outfit our facility with a Game Lending Library! Offering a chance for all students to borrow board games and card games overnight to share with their families and continue the fun at home.

As we set-up this new endeavour at the school, we'd like to ask the school community if they have any gently used games (with all the pieces, of course!) to donate to kick off the start of the library! No sense buying Monopoly when it's collecting dust in back of someone's closet. Donations can be brought direction to Ms. McClenaghan, the school Librarian. Please make your donations as soon as possible! We would like to figure out what we have, before we make any purchases.

Don't have any old games, but would like to make a monetary donation? Your donation will go directly to the purchase of new and exciting games for the lending library! You can do this by sending a cheque to our secretary, Ms. Kellerman.

The cheque should be made out to:
VPS Home & School Assoc.

Amount of your choosing

Please write in comments "Game Lending Library" so we know where to direct your funds.

Mrs. Sass' Class - Walk to the Coves

Free on Wednesdays? Mrs. Sass' gr. 4/5 Class needs you!

Mr's Sass' class will begin bi-weekly walks to the Coves, hopefully beginning the second week of school. Unfortunately, last year, the walks need to be cancelled sometimes because of lack of volunteers. The group remains together at all times, so although a police background check is preferred, but not necessary. We walk Wednesday mornings until Christmas.

Spending time in the Coves promote:

- building a relationship with the natural world
- observation of seasonal changes
- education about local habitat, community
- a healthy emotional/mental well-being

Permission forms to be sent home first or second day of school. They hope to walk on September 11th then 25th, and every two weeks thereafter.

Please let us know if you can help. You do not need to have a child in Mrs. Sass' class to participate!

Spirit Wear Lead Organizer Needed!

The School Council and Home and School Association loves spirit wear, but needs a volunteer to lead this initiative!

Do you think you may have the skill set and the time to take this on this year? Some one from the Home & School can help get you started.

Please let us know if you're interested!

Healthy Snack Program Volunteers Needed!

A well-nourished child can focus better, feel better and learn more. A classroom that shares the same snack together shares an experience together. Snacks contain one serving of fruit or vegetable plus one serving of a multigrain or protein. These nutritious snacks are provided to every student at Victoria free of charge this year, due to a generous donation by the Oakridge Optimist Club. In order to continue with this successful program, 10-15 volunteers are needed. We need helpers in the following areas occasionally, monthly and weekly to run the program smoothly:

  • Grant writing, writing donation request letters to area grocery stores, orchards, service organizations.

  • Cost-conscious and nutritious-minded snack menu planner to consider seasonal specials and provide monthly menu to shoppers & to school

  • Weekly shoppers to purchase food for 250 students and to deliver to the school the morning of snack program (Tuesdays or Wednesdays)

  • 1 hour preparation of snacks in the morning from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. (Tuesdays or Wednesdays)

  • Grade 7/8 students needed to help carry in groceries from 8:45 - 9:00 on snack program mornings (50 Big V points per day!)

Please contact us by clicking the button below or phone Amy at 519-694-2148 to help out.
